Medal of Honor with Chain set; high oval medal, silver gilt, medallions mounted with small rivets in
frame, with suspension ring. Comes together with a gilt 22-link chain (of these 20 are actual chain
links, another is in the middle allowing a place to attach the medal, and the last link is at the end
with maker`s mark "FREDERICO DA COSTA, Lisboa…". Pieces in large original luxury box of issue
of "FREDERICO COSTA…" with enclosed miniature medal (silver gilt with ribbon). Very fine and
rare order of sciences! In 1290 a University was founded in the Portuguese town Coimbra, where
this sign of honor has been awarded since 1852. I-R!
