King Gustaf Adolph 30th War Medal
A very old medal.

King Karl Johans Medal 1854
On November 4th, 1854 (on the 40th anniversary of the Swedish-Norwegian Union)the Karl Johan equestrian statue was uncovered in Stockholm. The statue was financed by King Oscar I in memory of the 10th anniversary since his fathers death. To commemorate this occasion King Oscar I made a silver medal in the 8th size. It was awarded to the Norwegian and Swedish military dignities at the ceremony. The medal was to be carried on the left side of the chest. The front side is Karl XIV Johan head with the years MDCCCXIII-MDCCCXIV below. The back is the equestrian statue DEN IV NOVEMBER MDCCCXIV below.

The Karl Johan medal, as it is normally called, was later awarded to all surviving Swedish military and civilians with officer command who were under Karl XIV Johan's command under the campaigns in Germany and Norway 1813-1814.

The awarded medals did not have the Royal Crown. Some recipients did upgrade their medals with this and other mementos themselves.

King Oscar II Anniversary medal 1897
On the obverse a light blue background with King Oscar II bust in silver. The center is surrounded by a laurel wreath with ribbons . On the ribbons that dates 1872 and 1897. At the top a royal crown. This badge was to commemorate the 25 year reign of the King.

The light blue and silver-gilt were awarded to 232 members of the Royal family and the to the Royal and Princely guests attending he Silver Jubilee celebrations in Stockholm.

The dark blue in oxydized silver were awarded to 268 members of the lower classes within the Royal Household.

The red and silver-gilt were awarded to 49 members of the Royal Family and to members of the Norwegian Royal Household.

The medal is plain on the reverse.

King Oscar II and Queen Sophia Golden Wedding Medal 1907
King Oscar II and Queen Sophia celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary June 6th, 1907. This medal was made for this occasion. It was designed by Prince Eugen and it was made by integrating the couples initials surrounded by a laurel wreath under the crown. It is made of gold by C. F. Carlman.

460 decorations were made in silver-gilt. They were awarded to the members of the Royal Family, to their foreign guests and to the Royal and Princely Households etc.

Red Cross Merit Medal 1921
Awarded in the name of Knut E.J. Tisell after 1921

This is the first type of the Swedish Red Cross medal, first version. On its obverse in the center, the silver medal bears the truncated bust of King Gustav V. Beneath the bust the designers name: A. Lindberg. The central motive is surrounded by an encircling border with an inscription signifying: “ Gustav V, King of Sweden”. On the reverse in the center a Geneva cross surrounded by a laurel wreath. Beneath the wreath the holders name. The central motive is surrounded by an encircling border with an inscription signifying: “ For Merit to the Volunteer Medical Service”. The medal has a hallmark around rim: Silver 1921. T he suspension is in the form of a royal crown with “horns”. The medal is in very good condition.

King Gustav V 70th Birthday Commemorative Medal 1928
King Gustav V 70th Birthday Commemorative Medal 1928 was established on May 25st 1928 for the Kings 70th birthday on June 16th 1928. About 900 were awarded.

The medal has the shape of an oval under a lined Royal crown of the Gustavian type. The middle part has a light blue enamel with the Kings mirror monogram of gold. This is surrounded by a white enameled rim where one can read in gold letters 1858 16 JUNI 1928. Outside this rim is a small blue enameled rim and finally it is finished off with a broad gilted edge. The back side is plain. The dimensions are 36x30 mm. It is designed by Sven Kule from a drawing by the Director general Ivar Tengbom ond made at C. F. Carlman. They are carried in the Seraphim blue ribbon.

916 of these medals were awarded to members of the Royal Family, ladies and gentlemen of the Royal and Princely Households, to ladies and gentlemen who had previously been in the service of the King and the Queen or other members of the Royal Family, to persons employed at the Royal Palaces, and to persons who had worked for the National Subscription Committee founded on the occasion of the King's birthday, etc..

Red Cross Merit Medal 1941
Awarded in the name of Nils Grevillius 1942.

A native of Stockholm, the Swedish conductor Nils Grevillius was trained as a violinist and from 1911 to 1914 was leader of the Stockholm Royal Opera Orchestra. After a study of conducting and experience in Stockholm, in 1924 he became conductor of the Royal Orchestra, with the title of court musical director from 1931, a position he held until 1953. He played an important part in the musical life of Sweden as a conductor in the concert-hall, and in the theater for ballet and opera. He died in 1970. Enclosed is a more detailed CV and his list of Orders and medals.

The Swedish Red Cross medal is in excellent condition and is made of silver. Comes with the red original case on a ladies ribbon plus the miniature. The miniature is very rare. On the obverse there is a man taking care of a sick or wounded man and on the top there is a inscription saying: CARITAS. Under the wounded man feet's is the designers name: Leo Holmgren. On the reverse on the top the Swedish three crowns and under them the ”red” cross. This is surrounded by the words: ” The Swedish red cross”. It is hall marked on the rim with MJV SILVER. This medal has won several prices for its beautiful design. A must for every red cross collector.

This nice gold medal was awarded to the Swedish architect Ivar Tengbom.

King Gustaf V Royal Patriotic Society 1947
This is a size no 9 (35.8 mm) gold medal awarded to Hans Dovert.

King Gustav V 90th Commemorative Medal 1948
King Gustav V 90th Commemorative Medal 1948 was established on May 21st 1948 for the Kings 90th birthday on June 16th 1948.

This is one of the most beautiful Swedish medals. It is designed by the silversmith Erik Fleming and made of gilt silver. It shows the Kings mirror monograms fully polished surrounded by a strongly stylistic, oval, dimly gilt palm wreath under a partly polished and partly dimly gilt gilt crown. The back carries the dates 1858 16/6 1948 and at the bottom the hallmarks. Dimensions are 50x30 mm. It carries the ribbon of the Seraphim order. Made by C.C. Sporrong & Co. It was awarded in silver-gilt to 770 people in the Royal family, ladies and gentlemen who had previously been in the service of the King and the Queen and other members of the Royal Family, to persons employd in the Royal Palaces, etc. It was also awarded to the ones that did a large effort for in the foundation which was established to collect money to support the Swedish youth volunteer idealistic activity.

This medal was issued on the death of Gustav V. It was awarded to 303 people. Mainly the Kings staff, Royal household and the people serving at the Castle.

Awarded to Yngve Magnusson.

Adelsförbundets medalje
Issued to Carl Clarence von Rosen. The father of Olympic Equestrian and long time member of IOC. Also the father of football and bandy in Sweden. However his national socialistic views have cast a shadow over his memory.
Little information exist on the criterias of the award before 1940. None awarded between 1940-70. About 15 awarded since then. Today it is awarded to people who has worked actively for 10 years for the Svenska Adelsförbundet.
